About

Hi, my name is Daniel Baker. I’m a flight instructor, teaching independently throughout Michiana, as well as at Foxtrot Flight Training in Dowagiac, MI. I also offer instructional ferry services nationwide. I began St. Joseph Flying Service as an umbrella for all of this work: a one-stop shop for those looking to earn their wings.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been enchanted by the magic of flight. By age 13, I was working weekends for a banner towing company that flew WWII biplanes. Following high school, I joined the Navy and became an aircrewman, flying on combat missions over the Middle East. While stationed in Jacksonville, I joined the Navy flying club, beginning my flight training under veteran fighter pilots.

After the Navy, I moved to South Bend, did full-time volunteer work, graduated college, became a traditional furniture maker, and eventually settled into my calling as a pilot and flight instructor. I love to fly anything; but my favorite planes have tailwheels and my preferred runways are grass.

I live with my amazing wife and our two future aviators. In my spare time, I’m building a small wooden biplane that I plan to fly throughout the country.

I can’t wait to share the adventure of flight with you!

You want to Fly. I know the Feeling.

My mission is to provide an affordable, high-quality path to earning your wings, without sacrificing the joy of flight.
